Seiken densetsu 3 ring menu5/10/2023 ![]() You don't have a weapon variety of SoM as each character is locked to a specific weapon type. However, while many complain about SoM's battle system today, I found ToM battle system way worse. SoM is more iconic but I agree that's a lot of nostalgia there. It's probably one of the prettiest SFC games. I still prefer it's prequel and I'll explain why.Ĭlearly Trial of Mana is an amazingly beautiful game. I'd give Trials of Mana SNES, a solid B. It would also give a better context when I play the remake. The remake looked way more ambitious than the Secret of Mana remake, so it was good news.īut I wanted to finally play the Super Famicom original. It got an official English name, Trials of Mana and a remake was announced as well. ![]() But SE being SE, they took 2 years to finally release a translated version via the Collection of Mana's western localization. It wasn't until the Switch's Collection of Mana was announced that the game was finally ported outside of the SFC. Many years later I held on hope for a translated Wii VC release, no dice. However, I'm a retro purist and couldn't get too far on an emulator, so I abandoned my playthrough. Seeing all the pictures of the gorgeous spritework in Nintendo Power and Gamefan made that decision hard to stomach.Īfter many years of waiting, I dabbled on playing it with translation via a translation patch on an emulator. I wish SE put more effort into the remake and it was mostly 1:1 with polygons and added Tales style skits. And I also thought the 2018 remake was decent. Yes, the game's combat is wonky, the i-frames, magic spamming, and so on. The gorgeous sprite work and iconic Hiro Kikuta score are timeless. ![]() The original Secret of Mana was one of my favorites on the SNES. It was on sale, half price, so a no-brainer purchase for me. I recently picked up The Collection of Mana for the Switch.
